Getting Hungry While Dieting? Good!

Usually we are told to avoid getting hungry while dieting. Most people eat at the first sign of hunger pains. I’m going to explain why this is not always the best way to get fast weight loss results. Allowing yourself to occasionally get hungry will speed up your fat loss, and hunger pains are not always bad for you.

Getting Hungry While Dieting? Good!

This topic came to my mind because I am dieting for a trip to Puerto Vallarta with my girlfriend. I am already lean, but I wanted to drop that last tiny bit of 3-4 pounds to get extra sharp abs. I got hungry last night and ate an apple and a bit of cheese right before bed. Yes,I screw up too! Anyway...I just need to remind myself that it is okay to get hungry from time to time.

"Old" Ideas About Dieting Are Not All Bad

Back in the 70s, everyone thought that dieting meant only getting hungry, starving ourselves. Sometime during the 80s, we were being told to just keep eating small meals all day. You know, "eat six small meals a day". In theory, this is supposed to keep your metabolism running high. Good theory, but people don’t really use it right. Sometimes the old ways (getting hungry) will yield much better results.

How Does the "Six Small Meals" Work For You?

I have NEVER been able to get lean by eating 6 meals per day. The problem with eating all the time is that you always have "food energy" circulating in your system. When you do any activities or exercise, your body always has an abundant supply of energy from the food you eat. Why would it need to access your stored energy source (aka BODY FAT)? The answer is that your body will not burn body fat with excessive food energy in your system.

Kids Are Always Hungry!

Kids seem to be able to go all day, playing hard, without getting hungry. Keeping so busy, having so much fun, almost makes you forget about eating. Until you stopped! Then you would be starving, but you’d still only eat what you needed. Active kids usually look lean and healthy. Think about eating like a kid does!

"...But Don’t Kids Have Higher Natural Metabolisms?"

This might be true, but, really kids probably just don’t eat as often or as much as adults. And, less often when they are doing outdoor fun activities. Of course, children who just sit around and eat all the time do have weight problems. The video games, the Internet, these things keep kids nearer to food (often junk food). This happens to adults who sit at a desk all day, too.

"Allowing Yourself to Get Hungry" is Key to Getting Lean

I don't believe our bodies were meant to have a never ending supply of constant food. I am not suggesting that you stay hungry all the time, but don't be so quick to grab food the second you feel hungry. This is your chance to get rid of some of that excessive body fat. Want to really lose some weight quickly? Let yourself get hungry on purpose before doing cardio. This is when you will see visible results quickly.
